Cathaoirleach Councillor John Campbell Launches Malin Head booklet

(The official launch of the booklet Malin Head: An Enchanting Place, A Colourful Past)

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor John Campbell launched the booklet Malin Head: An Enchanting Place, A Colourful Past on Friday 19^th September at 4 pm in Malin Head Community Centre (St Mary’s Hall) and photographs were taken afterwards at Banba’s Crown.

The launch celebrated the publication by Donegal County Archives, Donegal County Council, of an illustrated booklet which tells the story of Malin Head’s unique history and heritage over the centuries. The booklet was written by Ms Irene Haggan of Ramelton for the Donegal County Archives Service.

Those attending the launch included Deputies Charlie McConalogue TD and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD, Cllr John Campbell, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Nicholas Crossan, Vice-Cathaoirleach and councillors Martin McDermott, Bernard McGuinness, Martin Farren and Albert Doherty.

Donegal County Council's  Archivist Niamh Brennan welcomed the gathering while Michael Heaney, Director, Culture, Community and Planning, Donegal County Council, in giving a background to this project, emphasised the importance of Malin Head, its significance for our culture, history and tourism and as a destination point for the Wild Atlantic Way. Vice-Cathaoirleach, Nicholas Crossan spoke of the heritage and history of Malin Head and the Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Campbell, in launching the booklet spoke of the importance of Malin Head in terms of its heritage and tourism potential and of the significance of this booklet in promoting Malin Head and Inishowen as a tourist destination. The group then took photographs at Banba’s Crown, on a dry but misty afternoon.
